An agency needs enough context to make sound decisions. It rarely needs the whole customer database on day one. Match each data request to a task, a permitted purpose and a suitable level of detail.
Start with business goals, product limits, audience definitions, past campaign patterns and aggregate outcomes. For a specific funnel problem, provide a restricted view or a de-identified sample where that will answer the question.
Share identifiable records only after the business has checked the actual need, access controls, retention and supplier terms.
Under APP 6, an APP entity may use or disclose personal information only for the purpose it was collected, unless an exception applies, such as consent or a related purpose the individual would reasonably expect. The precise obligation depends on the entity and purpose. A contract with an agency alone does not settle every privacy question.
Name the data owner who can approve requests. Explain where the agency may store or export information.
Keep a simple register: dataset, fields, purpose, agency users, expiry and deletion or return method. Review it when the assignment expands.
Good context includes constraints and caveats as well as numbers. An unexplained raw export often creates more confusion and risk than a concise business brief.
